World Cup 2026 Group C Preview: Brazil, Morocco, Scotland, Haiti

Group C has a clear top dog, a real second favorite, and two stories that will get plenty of camera time. Brazil are the most talented team. Morocco are the team most experts respect. Scotland are the emotional pick. Haiti are the longshot. Here's the read.

The teams at a glance

  • Brazil — FIFA #6. Five-time champions. Brazil preview.
  • Morocco — FIFA #8. Reached the 2022 semifinals. Morocco preview.
  • Scotland — FIFA #43. First World Cup since 1998.
  • Haiti — FIFA #85. First World Cup since 1974.

Brazil: the talent gap is real

Brazil have Vinícius Júnior, Rodrygo, Endrick, Raphinha, and a defense anchored by Marquinhos. The midfield rebuild around Bruno Guimarães and André is finally settled. The tactical question: can a Carlo Ancelotti-managed Brazil finally win a World Cup since 2002?

For pool purposes, Brazil are the chalk pick to win Group C with 9 points and a +6 goal difference. Picking anyone else 1st here is a very contrarian play that needs a specific Upset Bonus pool format to pay off.

Morocco: not a fluke

Morocco's 2022 semifinal run was not luck. The defense — Achraf Hakimi (PSG), Romain Saïss, Noussair Mazraoui (Manchester United) — is legitimately top-tier. Hakim Ziyech and Brahim Díaz give them creative threat. Walid Regragui is one of the best tactical managers in international football.

Morocco are the most likely team in the tournament to upset a favorite in the knockouts. In Group C, they're a near-lock for 2nd. Picking them top in upset-bonus pools is a real value play — they've actually beaten Spain, Portugal, and Belgium in recent history.

Scotland: the Tartan Army returns

Scotland's first World Cup since 1998. Steve Clarke has built a side around Andy Robertson, Scott McTominay, John McGinn, and a rotation of Premier League regulars. They are organized, hard-working, and dangerous from set pieces.

The realistic ceiling: 4 points (a win and a draw). Most likely 3rd place and the wildcard conversation. The McTominay-Robertson-Gilmour spine is the difference between Scotland being competitive and being embarrassed.

Haiti: the romantic story

Haiti qualified for their first World Cup in 52 years. The squad is built around French-based pros — Duckens Nazon, Frantzdy Pierrot, and a young midfield core. The country's political and economic situation makes the qualifying achievement remarkable on its own.

Realistic for Haiti: 0-1 points. The dream scenario is a draw against Scotland. Don't pick them to advance — but do enjoy the story.

Predictions

  1. 1st: Brazil — talent gap on every other team in the group.
  2. 2nd: Morocco — automatic Round of 32 spot.
  3. 3rd: Scotland — wildcard possible at 4 points.
  4. 4th: Haiti — feel-good runs but the goal differential will be brutal.

Bracket strategy for Group C

  • Brazil 1st is the chalk. Lock it in and move on. Trying to be clever here usually loses points.
  • Morocco 2nd is the smart play in default pools. They're also a strong knockout pick — don't bounce them in the Round of 16.
  • Scotland for a wildcard slot is contrarian. Many pools will pick a stronger group's 3rd. Scotland's European structure makes 4 points realistic.
